Music is so very important to our lives and our worship services. But it is also important to our history. Here are reflections about two songs that we use in worship and what they have meant historically and what they mean today. Listening to voices of color is part of building the Beloved Community.
This is a great word because it has a definition as a noun “a person who publicly supports or recommends a particular cause or policy” and a verb “publicly recommend or support” and both are about embodiment.
We start the season of Lent with reminders that holy can be found in many places.
May I be all in for beloved community.
May I be all in, despite the challenges.
May I be all here for beloved community.
May I be ready for the beauty because
I long for the possibilities. Yes, I am
here for beloved community.
May I see the beauty of
you in community; of
us in community.
May we be the beauty
of beloved community.
May we be the dream together.
#UULent is designed to be used individually, as a family, or as a congregation. For each day in Lent a word has been selected. Each day participants are invited to reflect on the meaning of the day’s word, then create a photograph that represents the word, idea, practice, or concept and post it here and/or elsewhere.
Beginning on Ash Wednesday and for each day until Easter, the word for the day and a related quote will be posted. Reflect and engage throughout the day, checking for the word and quote in the morning, then come back later in the day to add your photo* and to see the images and words others have shared throughout the day (*YOUR photo – please respect copyright!).
May this intentional practice and discipline impact your daily life in ways that bring you closer to your spiritual core and offer you resiliency for life.

This Sunday, Cricket Hall will give a lesson titled “Putting the Holy back in the holidays.”
We are forgoing meeting in person during the coronavirus epidemic, meeting instead through the magic of ZOOM. We share music, readings, and hymns on our usual presentation slides, have a story and a talk, and share joys and sorrows, as well as a virtual “coffee hour” discussion starting at 10:30, with the service at 11.
