I was talking with a close friend who said he had been failing at spirituality for a while. This confuses me. You cannot fail at spirituality. Sometimes you take a different loop in the path, sometimes you take a rest from your journey, and sometimes you can be lost, but you can never fail. Spirituality is a journey where we get chances to relearn and to grow more all the time. Spirituality is not a destination.

A lot of us are struggling with who we want to be and finding our purpose. This may help. Even if it does not get us all the way there, it may start us on the path.

Too many times we jump to solving the problem when the other person just needs to vent. Sometimes we inadvertently invalidate the feelings of others because we are too busy trying to find solutions instead of giving them comfort. This picture is a cute and helpful reminder for how we should approach situations like this. This is respecting the dignity of others.

From the archives: Ten years ago this week, we launched uuworld.org as a weekly web magazine, with plans to publish one news story a week—just in time to cover the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the response of Unitarian Universalists to that complex catastrophe. (Reporter Donald Skinner filed 14 hurricane-aftermath stories in our first three months!) Revisit our coverage here; the link takes you to our earliest stories. We’ll publish an update to mark the tenth anniversary soon.

UU World editor Chris Walton writes in his Fall Column: “The General Assembly passed a resolution calling on UU congregations to support the Black Lives Matter movement, which is challenging police brutality and other expressions of white supremacy. The movement challenges us, too.”

Often it is hard to describe our religion, especially when you are starting out.
This video goes into the depths of who we are and what we are about. Mostly we are about finding our own way together. Spirituality is personal, but fellowship and changing the world require others.
