How can we reach out and touch our community in a better way? In other words, can we better live up to our mission statement in the coming year? How can you help? What are you willing to do?

As a New Year Begins  By Kate Lore

Great Spirit of Life, as a new year begins, we turn inward to reflect about the state of our lives:

  • What lessons have we learned in the past year and which new ones now call us forward?
  • To whom do we still owe an apology or expression of thanks?
  • And with whom must we draw fresh boundaries?

As we pause from our regular rhythms of rush-rush-rush, we open ourselves to new perspectives and possibilities. We give thanks for these moments and for the wisdom they afford us. May they help bring us together in the sacred dynamics of life so that we—as individuals and as members of this community—might reach our full potential.

As we step across this threshold, let this new year be a year of greater awe and gratitude,
Of deeper kindness and acceptance, and more courageous acts of conviction.
For a kinder, more equitable and sustainable world is not only possible, she is on her way. And in the quietness of this sacred community, we can ever hear her breathing.

Amen.

We want to start off 2017 right, by having a potluck brunch. Come and join us for good fellowship and food. We will have a small devotion provided by Cricket. We will start at 10:30 AM. 

Our services are Sundays (usually at 11 a.m.) at the Progressive Women’s Association Event Center, 305 Washington Ave. in downtown Clarksburg, behind the Courthouse. More about us.

Children are welcome.

Kenneth Leo Patton (August 25, 1911-December 25, 1994), identifed as one of the major poets and a prophet of contemporary liberal religion, was a voice for a poetic, naturalistic humanism at a time when most humanists were defining a religion of reason. Minister and scholar David Bumbaugh has summed up Patton’s work: “It was he who taught a monotone rationalism how to sing; it was he who taught a stumble-footed humanism how to dance; it was he who cried ‘Look!’ and taught our eyes to see the glory in the ordinary.”

Sunday, June 19, 2016: Prickett’s Fort State Park

We have Spiritual Outings on the third Sunday during the summer. This month, we will gather at Prickett’s Fort State Park at 11 a.m. for a short service in the graveyard, followed by a potluck picnic, conversation, and walking or a visit to the replica pioneer fort. The fort and restrooms are wheelchair-accessible.
