Rev. Michael J. Crumpler reflects on his presence at Dr. Christine Ford’s testimony and how we all are witnessing a monster, but through affirming the worth and dignity of victims, we diminish the power of monsters and create survivors. Through truth survivors can be set free.

Religious Education
For the next few months, we will be discussing the 2017-18 UUA Common Read, Centering: Navigating Race, Authenticity, and Power in Ministry at 10 a.m. on the second and fourth Sundays, beginning October 14.
The book is available from inSpirit, the UUA Bookstore.
It is also available as an eBook in the Amazon Kindle store and on Google Play.
Everyone is welcome to join the discussion, whether you have read the book or not.
We will be using the discussion guide, broken down into shorter sessions, which is available here: https://www.uuabookstore.org/Assets/PDFs/centering_discguide.pdf
On the other Sundays, we will have topical discussions, and people are also free to bring their own current concerns to discuss.
Meeting for Business
We will meet for business at the beginning of our Spiritual Outing on the first Sunday of October, at Deegan-Hinkle Lake, to accept new members, followed by a book signing. If you are considering membership and have not yet let us know, please email westforkuu@gmail.com
From our Bylaws “Any person age 12 or over who joins in the Purpose and Covenant of this community may become a member after recommendation by the Ministry and Oversight Committee, acceptance by the congregation at a monthly meeting, and signing the Membership Book. All who sign the Membership Book shall become eligible to vote thirty (30) days after they sign. To remain a member, a person participates in the affairs of the community, remains in right relationship, and contributes time, money, or both.”
If you have additional items for the agenda, please email by September 26 so we can post a revised agenda by the ten-day deadline.

Sunday, September 16, 2018: Letting Go
Over time, demanding constant certainty from yourself and others can be tiresome – and frankly – annoying. Perfectionism, anxiety and anger are all associated with a high need for control, which can obviously interfere with your relationships and happiness in a big way.
From the Buddha to Christianity’s “Let go and let God” to self-help advice, we are told not to cling. Lisa deGruyter will talk about letting go.
We would love to have you come worship with us.

Blessed Rosh Hashanah
“Rosh Hashanah ushers in the beginning of the Jewish year and is a holiday that celebrates the creation of the world, something that’s reflected in its name, which means “head of the year” in Hebrew.” From Time
Here is a video from the acapela group The Maccabeats
Blessings of peace for the New Year to all of our Jewish friends and family.
Namaste,
Cricket
