West Virginia has taken a beating over the past week and a half. There have been massive floods, broken dams, children washed away, lives lost, houses washed away, and what feels like insurmountable damage.
There have been outcries for prayers. Prayers for West Virginia have filled my Facebook. Prayers for the flood victims. Prayers for people helping. Prayers for those still missing. Prayers for those who are found. Prayers for those who are safe. Continue reading

I was talking with a close friend who said he had been failing at spirituality for a while. This confuses me. You cannot fail at spirituality. Sometimes you take a different loop in the path, sometimes you take a rest from your journey, and sometimes you can be lost, but you can never fail. Spirituality is a journey where we get chances to relearn and to grow more all the time. Spirituality is not a destination.

It is hard to believe that Malala is just now an adult when she has been contributing to the world for so long now. This is a message of hope. One day all people will be seen as people.

Mindfulness is a simple word, but it can mean so much. There can be many definitions but this sums it up.
Mindfulness can also be described this way.
Mindfulness is the practice of living in the here and now without judgment. I believe that it is the key to living in today’s world. I believe that it is the key to being a good ally and a good person.

For millennia, in the depths of the darkness of winter, people have celebrated the return of the light. This year, the news is full of darkness – many wrongs against our first principle, the worth and dignity of every person. Many of us are tempted to despair.
Bring a candle, your hopes and fears, and one step you can take to right a wrong, to share or to contemplate silently, and we will celebrate hope and the inevitable return of the light.
We would love to have you come celebrate and worship with us. Please join us at the Progressive Women’s Association in downtown Clarksburg, WV on December 21, 2014 at 11 am.
Children are welcome. There will be an activity for children during the service, and a coffee hour afterwards.
The building is wheelchair accessible, with an accessible restroom.
