Courage

Chalice Lighting

May this flame,
symbol of transformation since time began,
fire our curiosity,
strengthen our wills,
and sustain our courage
as we seek what is good within and around us

Principles

Children’s Story: Paper Bag Princess (with assistance of Thomas Keating)

Courage : Your Examples

Courage: The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear…??????? Or

Courage: Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you’re scared to death. — Harold Wilson, British prime minister (1916-1995)

Sea Stories

Joys and Sorrows

“Young men go to war. Sometimes because they have to, sometimes because they want to. Always, they feel they are supposed to. This comes from the sad, layered stories of life, which over the centuries have seen courage confused with picking up arms, and cowardice confused with laying them down.” Christopher Paolini

Courage: Your Examples

“Men will face powder and steel because they have not the courage to face public opinion” Edwin Hubbell Chapin

When we are overwhelmed with the world and cannot see our way clear
When life seems a struggle between tedium and apathy or frenzy and exhaustion.
When today seems a punishment and tomorrow a torment
May we find the courage of patience.
May we recognize courage in ourselves and our companions, which is not drama dramatic, that elicits no fanfare
That commands little notice by the world, that is forgotten and taken f for granted.
May we learn how to cope.

Like those who live one day of pain at a time
Who see the long path of suffering and do not despair.
Who inspire us with their patient courage
When we are impatient or afraid.
May we know such courage and quietly celebrate its presence among us.
Amen

Benediction

May I find in me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference
